Team Liquid’s DOTA 2 team recently competed in The International 2024 (TI13), one of eSports’ most noteworthy and celebrated annual competitions. The tournament features the largest single-tournament prize pool of any eSports event, making it highly competitive on an international scale. TI13 took place at The Royal Arena of Copenhagen, Denmark, with teams once again battling in pursuit of the coveted Ageis of Champions, an impressive shield-like trophy forged of silver and bronze that represents the format’s pinnacle of accomplishment.
This year, after a series of decisive victories, Team Liquid ultimately stood atop the TI13 podium, hoisting the Aegis for the first time in seven years. This feat makes Team Liquid the third eSports organization to earn this title twice – and the first to do so with a completely different roster.
The team – consisting of Michael “miCKe” Vu, Michał “Nisha” Jankowski, Neta “33” Shapira, Samuel “Boxi” Svahn, and Aydin “Insania” Sarkohi – snapped the team’s so-called “silver medal curse” following a string of successful, but ultimately Aegis-less TI performances. Along the way, the team defeated and outlasted formidable opponents, including Aurora, Beastcoast, BB, Xtreme Gaming, and Cloud9, powering their way into the upper bracket and only gaining momentum once they arrived there.
In a dramatic grand final showdown against the Gaimin Gladiators, Team Liquid won in 3-0 fashion, emerging as tournament champions and securing the Aegis in a stunning display of stability, fortitude, and teamwork. Additionally, the team won a staggering $1.15 million of the tournament’s $2.56 million prize pool – a prize well-earned following a heartbreaking grand finals loss in 2023.
Now, Vu, Jankowski, Shapira, Svahn, and Sarkohi will live on in the annals of DOTA 2 history – with their names inscribed forever on the back of Aegis. This honor is a massive one within the eSports community, making these six competitors a lasting inspiration and reference point for aspiring DOTA 2 players worldwide.
As a co-owner of Team Liquid, I am incredibly proud of the team’s performance at this prestigious event. These achievements are a reflection of Team Liquid’s long-lasting tradition of success, tenacity, and unbreaking focus within the increasingly vast and competitive eSports scene. I look forward to seeing what the team accomplishes on the DOTA 2 front in 2025.
